General Luna, Siargao Island, Philippines ---  The Dedon Island Resort in Siargao Island receives another prestigious recognition from an International Traveller, a widely read international magazine, as No. 37 among the 100 Best Hotels and Resorts in the world through the help of an esteemed judging panel of 17 expert travel writers.
International Traveller quotes:   Remote islands in the Philippines are still a tad off the grid, but resorts like Dedon Island are going to change that. This design-savvy haven fuses traditional Philippine architecture with striking designer woven furniture.
Villas are open and airy with deeply shaded decks and sensational showers – stepping beneath them is akin to bathing under a cascading waterfall. Food is deliciously uncomplicated with lots of seafood and local organic produce.
There’s eco-friendly everything, a spa, a bar (try the indigenous calamansi fruit juice), an outdoor cinema and an Adventure Manager. Service is spot on (and usually one step ahead of you).

Did you know The island of Siargao is celebrated for its surfing break aptly named Cloud 9. The tube waves are legendary… dude!
The magazines concept of ‘the best’ was actually quite simple --- the hotel or resort has to be the most unique, special and exceed all reasonable expectations on customer experiences.
In the selection of the judging panel, International Traveller used three criteria that includes expertise, a global reach and a variety of interests and tastes represented. The panellists range from adventure lovers to a-billion-count-Egyptian-cotton-only travellers. Among the panel, which has a combined 230 years of experience, are Claire Wrathall, part of the editorial team who launched Condé Nast Traveller (UK); Sunshine Flint, contributing editor at BBC Travel; and former Vogue editor Kirstie Clements. (International Traveller, September 4, 2013).

Siargaos popularity can be traced back in early 1990s when a famous surf photographer and writer, John Callahan, discovered Cloud 9 surf break (named after the local no-melt chocolate bars) and published an article about his surf expedition in the island. It was also recognized by CNN.Go as worlds ten best surf spot for two consecutive years (2012-2013).  The discovery of Cloud 9 as a world-class surfing destination stimulated tourist arrivals and tourism investors, making it the number one source of international visitor arrivals in Caraga Region.
