Siargao: House Bill 6349

House Bill 6349 seeks to spur sustainable and responsible growth by creating a 40 meter land easement beginning at the shoreline and reckoned inwards the land areas.

From the end of the easement perimeter and 3 kilometers inwards, the bill then reclassifies and converts the land areas covered into commercial, residential, and tourist places.

Further, this bill declares the Siargao Island and all the surrounding islands therein as ecotourism zones. To manage the development of the areas herein specified, this bill creates the Siargao Development Authority to ensure the sustainable development of the islands.

The kids are the future.

Let us inspire and nurture through promoting creativity, learning, and fun.

Let us lead by example, holding the environment, education, and the well-being of those around us as paramount.

We have the power, and can choose to sow the seeds that empower future generations in every way possible to us.

For us at Grom Nation, we believe in accomplishing this through motivating and mentoring youth with surf, skate, art, and music.

Sugba Lagoon

Written by The Traveller's Chronicle PH

It's definitely a paradise hidden within islands and hectares of magroves forest. About an hour boat ride from Del Carmen, Sugba Lagoon is one of the most popular place to go in Siargao. This spectacular lagoon is surrounded by mountains and mangroves.

Once you reach the Sugba Lagoon, you will dock at a hut which is built in the middle of the lagoon. There are plenty of things to do there so you definitely won’t get bored. You can jump right into the cold water of the Lagoon from a platform made by locals. You can do stand up paddle boarding or just swim. If you get tired, you can rest at the hut and enjoy the view of the Lagoon.

You can also add to your itinerary the Kawhagan Island just nearby the Sugba lagoon. The island has a long white sandbar which you can enjoy.

The Summer Jewell of Mindanao

The Summer Jewell of Mindanao
Written by: Arnez Jewell Dotillos-Manlimos

Although summer about to say its goodbyes, there is a place in the south-eastern part of the Philippines, where it never meets its end. If you haven’t gone to a summer vacation yet, we highly suggest you to consider visiting the amazing paradise located at Mindanao, the Siargao Island.

We have always dreamt to spend our summer vacation at Siargao and when it finally happened, it did not, even a little, disappointed us. Our first destination was the famous Magpupungko Rock Pools, its scenic sand beach with natural rock formations & tidal pools will leave your mouth open in amazement and admiration. The crystal clear blue water made us all speechless. And if you are into jumping, there are multiple spots to get your backflip on. Magpupungko could really makes appreciate how astonishing nature could be.

Our next stop was the Naked Island, an island made of sand and some little bushes alone. Yes, there is nothing more to see there, but it’s being like that is what makes it precious. Its fine white sand embraces your feet as you walk along the island. It is indeed worth visiting.

And last but certainly not the least was the Daku Island. It is a pretty good chill spot. There you can venture into the palm forest. Its fine white sand, warm hearted locals, beautiful scenery and clear blue water will make you never want to leave. Daku Island is so perfect that you will know what "love at first sight" really is. This Island should really be witnessed and experienced by everyone.

Overall, the trip we just had at Siargao was indeed a memory worthy to treasure. What makes our trip even more satisfying was because we were able to experience it together with dear friends. Remember, nothing could make a place endearing, but being with people you know you love and loves you back.

The Black Pencil Project volunteers traveled to Brgy. Caub, Del Carmen

4 months ago, with no itinerary or coverage for the day, the team decided to do road trip and check the Siargao Circumferential Road. In the peaceful town of Del Carmen, Siargao Islands, famous for Sugba Lagoon and longest continous mangroves in the country, we met a lot of new friends, share their hopes, dreams and share their hobbies like fishing! We promise to ourselves we will come back next year.

Last February 16, the Black Pencil Project volunteers traveled to Brgy. Caub, Del Carmen, Siargao Islands for the fulfillment of School-In-A-Box campaign of Black Pencil Project in partnership with Moneygram Foundation. Last mile study kits were given to 350 learners in the islands to help boost class participation and reduced absenteeism.

Black Pencil Project is volunteerism platform that aims to empower remote and indigenous barrio schools in the Philippines with free access to school supplies like pencils, art materials and paper.
